Well, I have a Class II Malocclusion, called retrognathism or overbite, which occurs when the upper jaw and teeth severely overlap the bottom jaw and teeth. (1.) I also have an overjet and an asymmetry. Just how he will combine the below techniques into one operation is way outside my realm of knowledge, but here are some youtube.com videos to help with understanding.
- To fix the overjet the surgeon will perform a Bilateral Mandibular Sagittal Split Osteotomy Advancement which involves advancing the lower jaw to correct the overbite.
- For my maxilla I could not find any video simulations of that portion of the surgery (just real-life operations which I do NOT wish to see), but needless to say it will be an expansion and an advancement of my upper jaw.
- He will also correct the "cant" of my current bite by doing something similar to the below:
So the official surgery is:
Maxillary Segmental LeFort I Osteotomy with Rigid Fixation & Bone Graft. Bilateral Mandibular Ramus Sagittal Split Osteotomy with Rigid Fixation.
... Sounds like fun, right? :)
